Indian Summer: Celebrating the Glories of the Harvest
“The trees came into bearing at seven years old, and the apples were extra well colored and smooth skinned. I have had apple buyers and nursery men tell me that my orchard was the prettiest they ever saw...”
- Laura Ingalls Wilder, “My Apple Orchard” 1912
Apples hold a special place in our hearts. Although originally from Turkey, apples were brought to North America with colonists in the 17th century, and the first apple orchard on the North American continent was said to be near Boston in 1625. And so for nearly 400 years, apples have found a permanent place in American history, folk tales and on farm tables.
