2-3 cups sugarPrepare juice from fully ripe cherries. About 4 pounds of cherries should yield 4 cups of juice; 5 pounds should yield 5 cups. Sort and wash cherries and remove stems. Do not pit. Crush cherries, add 1/2 cup of water. Cover and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes. Extract juice.
Make jelly as described in the instructions in the package.
Unsweetened cherry jelly can be made with 4 cups of juice. Taste the juice before making unsweetened jelly.
