I have been canning for 25-30 years. This recipe is from my sister but I added a few more spices. I grow my own peppers or go to the farmer’s markets for local produce. People tell me I should sell my pickles. I give the canned pickles away at Christmas, as well as neighbors and friends. This recipe is a favorite.
I’ve always been afraid of making pickles. I always thought it was a long process. This was the first time I made pickles, and Mrs. Wages® makes it so easy. I love the Bread and Butter and my husband likes Zesty Dill. I will never make a pickle from scratch. It is the truth. He goes through a jar in two days.
I often call refer to blueberry jam as my “gateway” preserve. It was the first canning project I did on my own, and rapidly led me down the path to many happy hours over the canning pot. I still make it just like my mom always does, with plenty of cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon. The combination makes it taste ever so slightly of Christmas.
